I gave two investment advices in the past two weeks!
advice 1:
one of my friend was going to take "LIC money plus" insurance scheme. I notified him of the realities of "market linked" schemes. I asked him if he needs insurance or investment. I told him to consider "term insurance", as he has good financial back-up. People who have financial back-up why need insurance... The only thing is --- if something happens to them the family should get equivalent of the financial benefits which they would have got if he was alive.. only "term" insurance provides that... The other insurance are basically insurance plus investment schemes...
But i have a child education insurance scheme only which yields only some 6%.. i dont know whether i want to continue that... Instead of that i should have invested that money in MFs and plus one good term-insurance... If your partner knows how to manage money, then term insurance is better... perhaps i need to take one!
Or.. ?
advice 2:
my friend (colleague).., seeing my blog, asked me advice on how to save money for his sisters marriage which will happen in another 3 years.. i was shocked... blogs are dangerous..!
i gave him the new Mutual Funds Insight magazine ( 100Rs!!!) i bought two days before! i said i can suggest him fund houses plus equity funds if he is interested....
i told him to calculate the money he needs after 3 years! Then plan the investments to achieve that...
=>Perhaps he can --- invest 5000Rs as SIP in MS in 5 separate funds or he need not start SIp.. he can invest periodically in MFs systematically...
=> He can start buying the yellow metal... perhaps as biscuits or coins... or if his sister is sure of the ornaments then ornaments itself.. ( later she should not change that )
=> he can invest the rest in banks or debt instruments...
Anyway good.... But ater reading all these and writing i am not planning anything... perhaps i should plan for lachu's in a 22 year timeline... ( should book some NRI's son nowitself!)
I dont need any retirement fund... my last days are at manasarovar. amen.
