Butterfly effect

Was fully immersed in movie "butterfly effect". The guy wants to change his present, have special ability to go back to past and change small events which changes his future completely.. And the interesting thing each time some thing else gets screwed up...

Though I dont have the ability to change anything in past.. I do have this bad habit of going to past and correct small events and live with the changed events to days, months and years ( it happens really fast in dreams )..... Anyway each time I comes back to the same present....

Another wonderful hobby I have is to go back to past and see how events have shaped up... go back and see how languages have developed, how cultures evolved... My imagination is kind of good.. But dont have enough vocabulary and time to write all of it down.. But will try to write some of it later..

Other movies saw:
Indian Rupee ( malayalam) and 7 aum arivu ( tamizhu).. Both watchable..

Three interesting movies

Traffic ( English ): Nice inter winding stories related to war on drugs - One dedicated ( yet corrupt) officer tries to expose the drug mafia and the involvement of his boss. One judge heads the war on drugs, and also finds out that his own daughter is an addict. One rich-social wife gets surprised to know that her husband is a drug dealer when he gets arrested, but does everything to retain his drug empire. Two officers are after her and her husband wanting to expose the drug dealings. Nice movie.

Usual Suspects: Five criminals are arrested on a case involving Guns traffic. They get angry on the wrong accusations and plots revenge against police. Soon they are hired by the never seen dreadful Keysen Soze for a job. They all have done wrong to Keysen Soze unknowingly in past and this is a chance for them to make amends. They go on the mission killing everyone abroad a ship ( which turns to be suicidal also) - and with only two survivors. Who is Keysen Soze and who is the mastermind are the questions which are solved at the end.

Shawshank Redemption: A banker is accused of kiling his wife and killer and sentenced to two life terms. He comes to shawshank prison where .. ( I am too bored. I never write blogs this longer.. ). Nice movie. See it. Fear gives you prisonhood, Hope brings you freedom!!!

Hope and Dreams are the best thing in this world..

Ikiru ( Life ) - Japanese movie

You will realize how precious it is, only when you start losing it. Discovering that it is the last stages of his life an elderly civil servant changes his entire attitude towards life.. He starts exploring Tokyo's night life for a day, although enjoys, he feels thats not the solution. How he tries to get joy / passion from his remaining life is worth seeing...

Very inspiring intense movie......

I am Sam

Back to my favourite passion.. movies
Could not see "Daivathirumagal" when it was running in theatres. So decided to watch the original - "I am Sam". Very nice movie. A 7 year old daughter is taken away from her father ( who has development disability ) and it shows his fight to get her back. And in the process he inspires his lawyer also to solve all the family problems....

Pranayam

Pranayam , Love, Pyaar, Mohabbat.... The movie is like a nice romantic poem. I really enjoyed every moment of it. And very nice performances from Anupam Kher, Jayaprada and Mohan Lal.

" The plesure of Love lasts for a moment, the pain of love lasts a life time"

Pirated Movies

I lost my Virginity. That was enough reason to start prostitution... :)

After buying Inception DVD for over 400Rs.. I decided to take a break from buying english movies. The price is too high for an Indian to buy.

So finally accepted the offer from Harish to get his 500 GB movies. If Harish, then why not limit to him. Had Vasu's and Anand's DVD also. Total 750GB of moviews.. Wow.

Saw
1. Rashomon
2. The Game
3. Cars
4. Farenheit 9/11
5. High and Low
6. Seven Samurai
7. Cars
8. Paranormal activity ( in fast forward mode )
9. Shoot 'em all
10. Pink panther returns
11. V for Vendetta

etc etc.. Long list follows.....

Still my principle holds ( no piracy) for the regional language movies, and new english movies. Forgive me, I cant resist this 800GB worth treasure..!

Veruthe Oru Bharya, Innathe Chintha vishayam, Vinodhayathra, Bhagya Devatha

Except for vinodhayathra, i saw all the other three films in subject line recently -
"Innathe chintha vishayam" i wanted to see despite bad reviews, as i liked "vinodha yathra". vinodha yathra many didnt like. but i liked it. Like Vinodh ( Dileep) in the movie who learnt a ot of from Meera, i also learnt some tips and truths in life. But "innathe chinthavishayam" is a junk movie. Nothing in that. Some made up story.
"Bhagya Devatha" is a nice film, narrated in a simple manner. beauty of kuttanad is fully picturised. I have seen many people marrying inorder to start a career or business by getting dowry from wife's side. And Jayaram lives in that role very well. "Veruthe Oru Bharya" i immediately bought a VCD, as i had missed that film. And "Bhagya devatha" gave me the necessary momentum to see that film. And first half is narrated very well. Gopika is truly great. But second half disappointed me. It didnt have a good script. You dont have to make the husband a mental person for husband-wife reunion to take place. I saw the second half in 10 mins.

2 Harihar Nagar

This time also lachu didnt allow to see me the second half..... She was too bored once the first half was over.

The first half was quite interesting... although some "thara" thamashakal, but i was laughing aloud. And the 1st half ended with the predicted suspense.. " Honai speaking..".

But the Lays, biscuits and Frooty couldnt make lachu sit for the second half. She couldnt take the violence and she started asking "where is the tamasha ? "

Anyway me and her were happily standing outside eating Gems and Kurkure for the second half.

I was hoping to see the film alone once i am back in bangalore.. But my wife broke away the suspense while returning back.. and so i saved a 150Rs PVR tickets.. Now i am not in the mood to see the film...

For those who have seen In Harihar Nagar, the second one would be a good see....

Today there was "Chocolate" film in TV, and lachu is seeing that for 5th time. It seems that her taste is in romance and she doesnt like the elder artists in malayam industry - mamootty, mohanlal, mukesh etc etc..... Hope new heroes will come to suit the "kid" generation like her.....

Dilli 6

Dilli 6 I saw despite the bad reviews, because Rang De Basanti was/is a very fascinating movie and I didnt want to miss the director's next one.

The movie is see-able; The concept and execution of the movie i felt really complicated; Expecially ending ; It should not have been made so serious and should have been more fun and romantic; I dont like film makers exploiting so much emotions...

SlumDog Millionaire..

Saw slumdog millionaire..... Instead of writing up a review, i thought i will link to a review done by a non-Indian http://thegoodflea.com/2009/01/slum-dog-millionaire-review.html.

The movie is a good masala film. It projects every bad things in India in a very well manner! Surely West will enjoy.

Also I liked the film. Its the first "outsourced" film ; well we indians are ready to give up IT and BPOs and take up films as career!!

Maharathi.... movie

Nice movie. Nice to see Ompuri, Bomman Irani, Nasirudheen shah and Paresh rawal in one movie.

The twists in the movie are predictable. But for the first time i screamed on one scene where Paresh tries to take the dead body out of the freezer and bomman irani comes suddenly behind him.. Man, I am telling the climax scenes..... Dont read this!

20-twenty

20-twenty Rocks! Its nice to see all the Malayalam Biggies coming together for this venture.

When the film started, it was dragging and boring and I really wanted to get out of the theatre. But once the three Mega-starts - Mammooty, Suresh Gopi and Mohan lal comes its a super-duper entertainer. The clashes btw these titans have been filmed very well. Its nice to see your favourite starts fight each other.

Mohan lal and Suresh Gopi gets all the Clap-padi scenes. Mohan lal is at his best in the movie.

I dont want to see the movie again if its free. But its a must to see it in theatres atleast one time if you love these stars!!!

Dasavatharam - final comments!!!

Finally I decided to see dasavatharam again to give a good review... Very rarely me and my wife go for films together... ( i always see films alone!). We decided to see dasavatharam on July 1st week and booked the tickets online in chennai.

but fate struck... because of lorry strike... petrol pumps had huge queue and i could not fill petrol on time, i called my friend and asked him to go and see the film. so a second try on dasavatharam did not work out!

but now - thinking again - i seem to like the film. Most importantly I have started liking the songs!

Dasavatharam - Part 2 - Others

Female characters in this movie - Asin ( double role - one in 12th century and other in 21st century) and Mallika ( as a Spy agent) are superb.

Music sucks! Himmesh Reshmaiiyya ( whatever) sucks ! Luckily he did not get enough time to do the background score and that saved the movie... Background score is good!!!

Except for Kamal Hassan nobody is in the movie - Hero, Villain, Legend, RAW agent, Social Reformer, Old woman, Afghan Muslim, Japanese Martial arts guru all roles are done by kamal hassan...

And he has done all the roles very well. Comedy and Actions are good!

But have to say it again... Make up sucks !!!!

Dasavatharam - part 1

Just before going to the movie - My mentor here in my new company gave me a task - see the moview and explain to him how kamalhassan's dasavatharam is related to mahavishnu's dasavatharam.

For him the answer is - No Relation. Sivaji Ganesan had acted in nine roles, so kamal hassan wanted 10 roles and make history.

This is not a moview review, but a movie going experience review. All my friends declined to come with me for seeing Dasavatharam at PVR, Forum mall as it costs 250Rs/-. But i wanted to see it before any of my friends see it. Otherwise they will spoil my mood by telling all the suspense and twists and all.

When I reached PVR theatres I realized my purse has only around 50-60Rs. Ticket i already had. So had to spend 3 hours in theatre without having pepsi and popcorn.

I didn't know any story line and was eager to see it... The first scene showing Nehru stadium and Tsunami after-effects itself dejected me. Could see lot of animated faces ( ofcourse other kamal hassan's ).. Makeup is poor, and looks very funny. It looks like mask pasted for many "avatharams"....

Then it goes back to 12th century... And shows the fight between vaishnavite and shaivite... and how kamal hassan's first avathar fights and dies for the vaishnavite cause. Vishnu statue and kamal hassan's first avathar are immersed to the sea. From this point onwards I was seeing the movie to see a relation btw the 12th scentury story and 21st century... but could not find any .. apart from that when Tsunami happens the statue gets visible again...

But later when i was discussing with my friends - they were talking about "butterfly effect". Small events in past can make significant impact in future... Say a slight variation in position of ball at the top of a hill can impact which valley the ball falls in....

Anyway on a philosophical / spiritical line what the moview tried to convey i did not get.

But the "butterfly effect" theory is true.. small events in past impact your life in a big way.

To be Continued...

Vishu Movies

Saw 4 movies - Vinodayathra, Chotta Mumbai, Big B and Maya Kannadi..... The 3 Mallu ones I saw alone and mayakkanadi in a bachelor company.

But definitely Mayakannadi was avoidable... There is nothing thrilling in the movie. Navya has over-acted well!!

Man, felt i was seeing "Desperado". Really a brave movie making attempt. Its a totally different film. Four adopted sons revenging their Mother's death. Its not a typical Mallu movie. Guns and Roses are handled with ease, Mamookka is superb and i liked his one liner - "Kochi pazhaya Kochi allennu ariyam, pakshe Bilal pazhaya Bilal thane"!

This is the story of Chotta B's..... kochi background... but not guns... small small thattipus... it also doesn't have a story.. some characters and funny scenes. But definitely entertaining.

The Ad for Vinodayathra says it all - "Kandu padickananee Chithram". Vinod ( Dileep) learns a lot in this movie through his interactions with the people he meets. I also learnt somethings out of the film.
"Tholkan Theerumanichal pinne tholkanne neramundavoo.. jeevithathe possitive ayyi kannuka"
"Jeevithathe showcase cheyyathirickuka"
"Kannil kannunna jeevitham manassilakkathe othiri onnan undittu karyam onnum illa"
etc etc. I liked this movie( although many have branded this film as nothing new in it)
-----------
Perhaps i may have to see one or two among this now with my wife!

Reviews

I purchased Shivaji audio without even hearing it once. It was this news in papers that fooled me "A R Rahman finally pleases rajni fans with Shivaji music". For many days i tried to listen to its music and told myself to love it. But i dont like any of its songs. And i had to lower the volume when sreedevi enters the car. Else she will fire me on wasting 45Rs. Now anyway i have removed the cassette, and its available for second hand sale.

Mayavi is a very good comedy movie... Mammootty at his best. Gopika looks very nice in the movie.

You should not miss Mozhi. Jyothika is great, PrithviRaj is charming and Prakash Raj very vibrant..!
I dont have time for review... But please dont miss Mozhi

Pachakilli Muthucharam

Saw Pachakilli Muthucharam... (and thereby finally saw a Sharath kumar film at theatre..)

We were confused on whether to buy tickets online.., because each had different choice..
Preferences were:_
Binoj - Ghost Rider
Shammer - The Departed
Balaji - anything except Ghost Rider
Deepesh - Nishabdh
and Me - Pachakilli Muthucharam or Mozi

I had an inclination for Pachakilli Muthucharam as i heard that its story had connections with extra marital affairs.. which suits my age!

We arrived at sathyam, but only tickets for Pachakilli Muthucharam and ghost Rider were available, so we took tickets for Pachakilli...

The film started well... The song... "Un shirippine... " is a very good one... so start good!

Then problems coming.. Sharath's child getting diabetics.. wife goes on depression.. Sharath feeling lonely despite giving best for his family etc etc...

Then jyothika comes... I liked the way movie progresses at this time.. ( although majority did not like this part)

finally when i was hoping th extra-marital to blossom.. Villain comes... and then twists and turns..

The second half is more fast.. and more actions..

Actors are good, Songs are good, but script and direction lacks the momentum.

This film can be certainly seen if you are in a multiplex and no other tickets are available!
