hiererchial and flat

Based on my experience - there are two forms of teams - hiererchial and flat

hiererchial - there is a leader who leads the team. Responsibilities are divided and Module leads may be assigned.

flat - leader will be there. all are equal and no responsibilities. everybody will obey only leader's leader (- thereby making it one layer flat).

i think i like - hiererchial structure !

I second that. Its fine as long as it is implemented with the right motives. I don't believe in the boss always being right.

software organisation is usually flat - as it is too much dependent on resources - but it is never flat - it always revolves around egoes.

Anoop, it can be hierarchial only until the members are mature enough to take decisions. Like home. When we were kids, we had a hierarchial decision making. Dad decides. Now it has changed. Still we have advices coming from the head - and we would love to have our decisions aligned with Dad too. Somewhere between flat and hier.

Really true,,, i just wanted to tease the flat teams.. The flat teams are not really flat.. Flat team means you have one more person in the Copy list: Your Boss's Boss. And he will be called Program Manager and the poor guy Project Manager.

When it will get aligned ? Everybody is flat..
